Chocobo Guide
Ah, Chocobos. You know, with the exception of FF1, Chocobos have appeared in every FF game to date (I think). Anyway, this is a basic guide telling you how to catch, breed and race Chocobos.

How do you catch a Chocobo?

Simple. First, give the Chocobo Lure materia to any character, then run on any Chocobo tracks until you enter a "Chocobo Battle". You can tell if your in a Chocobo Battle, as there will be different music.

As your battling, you need to de three things:

1. Make sure the Chocobo stays in the battle field. This can be done by feefing it greens, which can be bought at the Chocobo Farm or the Chocobo Sage's home.

2. Make sure the Chocobo isn't hit. If it does get hit, it will attack evryone (you and the enemy) and run away.

3. Kill the monsters as quickly as possible.

Once you've won the battle, you will be riding the Chocobo. You can now run around the world map, without getting into any random battles. However, when you get off the Chocobo, it will run away.

If you want to keep the Chocobo, you need the Highwind, and need to be able to easily get to it. Run over to the Highwind, and dismount. You will then get the option to wither sending the Chocobo to the farm, or releasing it. Chose the option to send it to the farm, return to the farm, and follow Choco Billy's instructions on how to move it into a stable.

How do I breed Chocobos?

First, you need to rent three stables minimum. To rent one, go to the house on the farm, and speak to Choco Bill. It costs 10,000 gil to rent a stable, so mkae sure you have at least 30,000 gil to rent enough stables to breed. You also need a nut and a male and female chocobo. Next talk to Choco Billy, and tell him you want to breed. He will tell you that you need to speak to the Chocobos you want to breed. After doing that, chose the nut you want to use, and the Chocobos will mate.
Note: Normally, it doesn't matter which Chocobo you speak to first. The only time it affects he chick is when you want to breed a Gold Chocobo. When doing this, you need to speak to the Black Chocobo first. If you speak to the Wonderful Chocobo, you will get a Yellow Chocobo instead of a Gold one.

How do I breed a coloured Chocobo?

Which one? There are four different coloured Chocobos (not including the Yellow one, as they can be caught) - Blue, Green, Black and Gold. I think it would be best to start off by telling you how to beed the Blue and Green Chocobos, seeing as you need them to breed the Black Chocobo.

How to breed the Blue and Green Chocobo:

First, you need to get a Good and Great Chocobo. The Great can be found on tthe same island as Mideel, and the Good can be found near the Gold Saucer. Once you've cuaght one, mate them using the Carob Nut. The Carob Nut can be stolen from the Red Dragons (Valakorados) which can be found near Bone Village. Becuase the Chocobos will be C class, you may not succed, but trust me - you can geta  colored Chocobo this way, it may just take say 7 attempts!

Once you have a colored Chocobo obtain 99 Sylkis Greens (which can be bought from thbe Chocobo Sage) then feed Sylkis Greens to one fo the Chocobos until it has maxed out. Then, repeat this with the other. Race the Chocobos to A class and mate again using another Carob Nut until you get the other chocobo color you want. And make sure it has the opposite gender!

The Green Chocobo can cross any mountines in FF7. It can be used to reach materia cave on the same island as Wutai, containing the legendary Mime materia.

The Blue Chocobo can cross any shallow (light blue) river in FF7. I don't think it can reach any materia caves, but I could be wrong. It may actaully be able to reach the cave near Mideel, containing the excellent Quad Magic materia.

Black Chocobo

Feed the Blue and Green Chocobos Sylkis Greens until they max out then race them to A class and mate with a Carob Nut. Nuff said.

The Black Chocobo can cross any mountine AND river. Becuase water falls are a combination of water and mountine, the Black Chocobo is able to climb it. It is also able to reach the mateira cave near the Gold Saucer, but you may ot want to bother as the HP <-> MP materia is useless.

Gold Chocobo

The greatest Chocobo. To breed one, first you must obtain a Wonderful Chocobo. This can be found on the northern ice continate. However, Wonderful Chocobos are rare. Only keep the Chocobo if you battled the Jumping Rabbits (Jumping), as this will be a Wonderful Chocobo. As before, feed them Sylkis Greens until they max and race to A class. When you wish to breed, speak to the Black first.

You now posses a Gold Chocobo. Well done. The Gold Chocobo can go anywhere, even reach the island in the North East area of the map, contaning the legendary Knights of Round (KoR for short) materia. This is also the best Chocobo to use in  the races. No other Chocobo can match it.

Racing

When it comes to racing, you need to make sure you have the right Chocobo. A decent racing Chocobo can only be obtained through generations of A class Chocobos. this is why the Gold is the best, as the Blue, Green, Black and Wonderful Chocobo had to be raced to A class.

Any Chocobo which is either caught from the wild, given to you or breed at a low level will strugle in A class or above. Don't bother racing these unless you wish to breed with them (e.g. the Blue or Green).

If you win roughly 20 S Class races, then you'll recieve a special package containing all the top S Class prizes. It's worth it, beleve me.
